out of the darkness – a tribute to nelson mandela

out of the darkness is one of my most profound pieces, inspired by nelson mandela’s fingerprint on his arrest warrant. this work features over 9,200 diamonds set in gold and explores themes of society, apartheid, oppression, and abuse of power, not just in south africa but also these lasting effects on the worldwide. under the glow of a long-wave LED ultraviolet light, i discovered a whole new facet of my art — diamond fluorescence. the fingerprint illuminated with a dazzling spectrum of colors, predominantly blue from nitrogen atoms within the diamond's structure, but also with hints of yellow, orange, pink, whitish, and greenish tones. the effect was utterly captivating, reminiscent of a starlit sky, unveiling the hidden allure and natural scientific wonder of diamonds.
