WatchBox and Artist Johnathan Schultz Host Celebration of Artistry, Collecting, and Precious Materials
Collectible timepieces and Schultz’s captivating works take center stage at Miami Design District Event
May 17, 2023
WatchBox, the global destination and community for luxury watches, joined South African artist Johnathan Schultz at his eponymous Design District gallery for a celebration of artistry, collecting, and precious materials. Enthusiasts, collectors, and patrons of fine timepieces and art came together this week to discuss the parallels between these dynamic categories over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.
Schultz’s contemporary works, which span sculpture, textiles, large-scale installations, and creations in the metaverse, feature nature’s most precious metals and gemstones. Taking center stage during this event was ‘Out of Darkness,’ a piece based on Nelson Mandela’s fingerprint that radiates with over 9,000 brilliant diamonds.
WatchBox curated a noteworthy collection of timepieces to complement the art pieces on display, calling upon Schultz’s favored materials. Stand-out watches included a Rolex Cosmograph Daytona with a diamond-set case and full pave diamond dial, the H. Moser & Cie. Streamliner Tourbillon Rainbow with a Vantablack dial and full spectrum of sapphires set into the bezel, the Audemars Piguet Frosted Gold Royal Oak Chronograph, and more.
